used to smelt a
variety
of metals must meet
specific
requirements. The
refractory products'
affinity
for oxygen plays a decisive
role.
Based on
its
physical
properties, carbon is extremely
well-suited
although
its
affinity for oxygen
also
poses a
risk.
Various
anti-oxidation
agents are used to reduce
this
risk.
Magnesium-aluminium
alloys
are
frequently
used by the
refractory industry. These anti-oxidation agents form resistant oxides, protect the
carbon
prior
to oxidation,
reduce surface reactions and increase
the
service life
of the refractory products. Magnesium evaporates at approx.
1100° C and forms MgO - a
generally
known refractory product - at 1400° C. |
